-ExceptionalOps was originally founded as Special People of Fayette County and was established in 1986 by a group of people with loved ones with developmental disabilities. ExceptionalOps is a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, funded entirely by membership dues and donations. Special projects adopted by the organization are typically funded through foundation grants or fundraising events. All contributions are tax deductible.

-Our membership consists of parents, siblings, educators, providers, advocates and friends of persons with Developmental Disabilities. We are governed by a 9 member Board of Directors that meet bi monthly on the first Tuesday. Membership dues are $10 per year and meetings occur each month on the second Tuesday at 7:00PM. Meetings are located in Fayetteville in our offices at 100 Governor's Trace, Suite 106-107.

We advocate for specific policies and programs that benefit people with developmental disabilities and their families. We also educate service providers, county officials, families and others on issues that impact people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Our goal is to create an environment and opportunities for people in Fayette County, and surrounding communities, with developmental disabilities and their families to have choices as they live their lives.

Monthly meetings, newsletters and emails serve to help members get to know others with similar problems and find solutions, make new friends, become knowledgeable of their rights & services available, and become an effective catalyst for positive change. We also support the Fayette Special Olympics, All-Children's Playground, High Hope Group Home, Socialization and Behavior Management Programs, local Day Support Programs as well as provide scholarships for summer camps and other social and recreational activities.

ExceptionalOps is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, tax-exempt organization and derives its support from its membership and donations from the public. Special projects may be supported by fundraisers, government or foundation grants.
